The second block of four in our Formation series for 2017.
For many Christians, our faith in Jesus goes with the assumption that God intervenes in our daily lives in a variety of ways. We pray for God's action, healing and guidance. We ask God to speak to us. But for many of us, big questions also sit under the surface. Does God actually answer these prayers, and if so, which ones? And what do we do with all our unanswered prayers, with our disappointments and pain? How do we negotiate all of this without seeing God as a miracle genie and automatic blessing dispenser, or as far away and unconcerned, or as untrustworthy, or without getting fed up and ditching God altogether?
Outline:
31 May: Does God Get Involved? Is God faraway and uninvolved, or does God actually interact and get involved in our daily lives? And what questions does this raise for us?
14 June: Does God Heal? If God heals then how and why only sometimes? And if not, what about those who testify that have been healed? And what does all of this say about our ability to trust God?
28 June: Does God Do Miracles? The stories of Jesus speak of both healings and miracles. What do we do with these stories today? Do miracles still happen and how do we define them?
12 July: Does God "speak"? What does it mean to say we "hear from God"? If God "speaks" , what does God's 'voice' sound like? How do we hear, and can we be confident in it?
26 July: What is prayer and why do we pray? How do we pray, does God answer, and what are we asking for?
